  • 1- Q. What considerations are important when choosing an egg donor?

    • Some of our couples look for a young candidate who has physical features similar to those of the Intended Mother’s. Features such as hair and eye color, and a similar height. Other parents put emphasis on race, educational level, etc. It is important for you as a couple to determine what is most important to you and to peruse our database with that in mind. Another consideration is whether the donor has previously completed a cycle or not. This is a very positive factor because we already know how she reacts to the medications, and to the obligations involved in donating her eggs; thus increasing the likelihood of success. Finally, the last consideration is the location of her home in relationship to your clinic. Bundles of Joy is ready to make all the necessary arrangements for travel and monitoring in remote clinics other than the one where your doctor works. Obviously this increase in required services will result in an increase of cost as well.

  • 2- Q. To what extent is the donation anonymous?

    • Bundles of Joy and all the professionals involved in this process maintain complete anonymity. The names of both the parties and your personal information is never disclosed to the other party. Moreover, when the contracts are executed, these are done in separate documents so that the other party does not see the other person’s signature which normally contains the name of the signer. There are exceptions which will have to be discussed and accepted by both parties before proceeding.

  • 3- Q. What happens if in the future should we need the identity of the donor for a medical reason?

    • We recommend that when creating the agreement, parents ask for a clause by which the donor can be contacted in the future through lawyers. Usually the donor understands the importance of such a clause and agrees to it.

  • 4- Q. What If we do not find a viable candidate in the database of Bundles of Joy?

    • Bundles of Joy will make every effort to find a donor with the characteristics desired by prospective parents from our extensive nationwide contacts.

  • 1- Q. How does Bundles of Joy match us with a compatible surrogate mother?

    • After meeting with the Intended Parents we review their application which takes into consideration their wishes such as: religion of the surrogate mother, race, geographical location where she lives, and her opinions on important issues such as the reduction of a multiple pregnancy and abortion. Surrogate mother candidates also inform us of their wishes. Our job is to match the surrogate mother with the couple who most resemble their mutual desires.Once both parties are informed about their possible match, we make a personal or Skype appointment for the parties to begin familiarizing themselves with one another and for all questions to be asked. This meeting should be done before the start of the medical and psychological pre-screening.

  • 2- Q. How much contact will we have with the surrogate mother before, during and after the pregnancy?

    • The relationship with the surrogate mother is completely open. We recommend that until contracts are signed the relationship should be through the agency only. After contracts are executed, our recomendation is to be assign a weekly or biweekly appointment to communicate. In this way both parties can continue with their daily lives and have a pleasant visit via telephone or Skype.In regards to after the delivery, both parties will decide. It is our experience that, in the majority of cases, there is a true friendship between parents and the surrogate mother, which continues in the future. It is also our experience that both parties are not ready to decide until after the birth of the child.

  • 3- Q. Will we have contact with the obstetrician who takes care of our surrogate mother?

    • The mother signs a release of medical records at the office of the obstetrician allowing prospective parents and the Agency to have access to all health information during the pregnancy. Besides, during the initial interview the wishes of the Intended Parents regarding those important moments is discussed in advance. Both parties know then what to expect during important ultrasounds and during the birth of the child.

  • 4- Q. To what extent is the candidate evaluated before she is presented to us?

    • Bundles of Joy interviews the candidate and her family. Then the candidate fills out questionnaires. Subsequently the Agency will order a criminal background check of all adults in her home. In addition, Bundles of Joy will collect all accessible medical records describing pregnancies and births of each of her children.Finally, it will be the doctor of assisted reproduction who will review this information and make a full physical, genetic and gynecological exam and then hopefully give the “green light” to continue with the Protocol that will make her pregnant.

  • 5- Q. How do we know that the mother will give us our baby after birth?

    • The mother will engender a baby who does not have her own genetics. Therefore, according to the laws of the State of Florida, she cannot decide later that the baby is hers. In addition, prior conversations with the parents and open communication help to minimize this risk. Although it is possible for the surrogate mother to have a special affection for the baby, it is clear from the outset that the baby belongs to the couple. Moreover, the baby is given to the Intended Parents immediately after birth and the surrogate mother will not breastfeed the baby.

  • 6- Q. There are certain medical insurance to cover to our surrogate mother? And our baby?

    • Currently, infertility treatments are not covered by any medical insurance. The couple should make direct arrangements with the reproductive technology doctor for this period. Once the surrogate mother goes under the care of an obstetrician, Bundles of Joy will recommend several insurance options or payment methods to choose from. As for the baby, when parents are carriers of health insurance in the United States, the baby is automatically insured for the first 30 days of life. International parents are also offered viable alternatives.

  • 7- Q. What happens if during the pregnancy we have differences of opinion as to the care of our surrogate mother?

    • This is a process which requires much trust from both sides. Our recommendation is to rely on the experience of Bundles of Joy so that our representatives work as mediators on the issue. As neutral intermediaries we will try to reach a solution acceptable to both parties. Obviously, the opinion of the obstetrician will be a key component in reaching a decision.

  • 8- Q. We would like to get a birth certificate with our names as parents. Will we be required to adopt our baby?

    • Lawyers can explain with more detail the procedures needed for the baby and her Intended Parents to be on the same birth certificate. Bundles of Joy will recommend lawyers specializing in assisted reproductive technology law to guide you. But usually this is not a problem.
